Remember the Grandma’s Favorite Dishcloth pattern? Knitting a diamond from the bottom up? This shawl starts out like that. So initially, at least, it will be super easy.
I’ve never made a shawl before, and this one is rather beautiful for something so simple, so I’m going to try this.
Yarn: Findley Dappled, Gray
Pattern:
CO 2 st.
INC at the beginning of each row until shawl is width desired.
If you get tired, just finish. You now have a triangle shawl. Yay.
If you want a full diamond, keep going. DEC 1 st at the beginning of each row.
Shetland Style!! Do NOT break wool! This is where you knit the “frame” around the diamond you just knit. That’s what makes it Shetland style!
Things to figure out: what does KNIT UP mean? I can kind of understand how to make a trapezoid off one side of the diamond. But how to do that on the remaining three sides of the diamond?? So confused. Sigh..
No, EZ does not include patterns for the shawl. Or the lace edging. She suggests you go buy a lace book. Sigh..
I have a headache now just thinking about this. I’m going to go lie down.
